A New Year... A New Decade of Fitness!
A NEW YEAR… A NEW DECADE OF FITNESS!
As we head into a New Decade many things are changing in the fitness industry. Change is inevitable, and change is good! If things didn’t change there would be no evolution, not to mention awful boring!
Speaking of boring, the days of going to the gym and standing on the same old cardio machine for 30 minutes or more and then doing 3 sets of 10 with your basic resistance training exercises is one of the main things that is really going to change in the next decade.
First of all, people are bored to death with this type of exercise. Second, people do not have the time anymore to spend 60 to 90 minutes per session on their exercise routine. Third, and probably most importantly, Science is beginning to prove out that this is not the most effective type of exercise for most people’s goals!
What is being proven is that shorter duration with higher intensity and multiple movements (i.e. metabolic resistance training) is much more effective at burning and reducing fat which should be most peoples’ goal. Certainly this would not apply to some people’s goals (i.e. Body Building, Sport Specific Athletic Training, or endurance training) but for the general population who are trying to get fit and healthy amidst a hectic modern day lifestyle, this will be the wave of the future.
These changes will certainly change the face of the Fitness Industry! The large corporate gyms are losing members left and right to smaller more personalized personal training studios and group training environments like Circuit Training, Boot Camps and Adventure Activities. The days of “One on One” 60 minute personal training sessions are giving way to 30 minute “small group” training sessions.
On the food side people are finally starting to figure out that DIETING DOESN’T WORK! There is a biological reason why 98% of all diets fail! That is not a generalization that is a FACT! Why would anybody buy into something with a 98% failure rate but they do, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars each year! We just refuse to believe that there isn’t a “quick fix”, “magic potion” or pill that will make us slim, trim and sexy with little or no exercise involved.
People need to understand that controlling and manipulating one’s body composition is extremely complex and challenging. We are all biologically and chemically unique! That is why there hasn’t been one “most effective” way to lose weight invented that works for everybody, despite the millions spent trying to develop such a magic potion!
So over the next few weeks as we enter into this new decade, I will be sharing with you what I have learned (good and bad) over the last decade in working with hundreds of clients from every age and fitness level. I will condense this into a look at the “7 Most important things“ you will need to achieve your fitness goals.” I will share some of the latest “cutting edge” science on exercise and nutrition as we individually break down these components.
Looking forward to working with you in 2010 and beyond!

Your P90X Buyer's Guide
Physical fitness comprises
Physical fitness comprises two related concepts: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (a task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations). In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. However, as automation increased leisure time, changes in lifestyles following the industrial revolution rendered this definition insufficient. These days, physical fitness is considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations.
Pain relief?
The Dr. says: "Here, take these" and hands out vicodin and oxy-products like they were candy on Halloween! And we ask ourselves "why" we have so many addicts?! Time to take an honest look at the cause and do some "preventitive medicine" and take responsiblity for our bodies. This begins with diet, exercise, and attitude. But sometimes events happen beyond our control, and our lives take sharp turns, sliding off the road.
I'm getting back on track with exercise and therapy. After a lumbar fusion between L5 and S1, it was deemed successful because I was not paralyzed, but my life living with chronic pain had just begun.
Today, after 5 years of agony everyday, I found relief in the Abaton Bed. For the first time in years, I felt my inner smile return.
